چکیده

INTRODUCTION The Frank Street catchment is an urbanised area on the Gold Coast located between Loders Creek and Biggera Creek, and drains directly to the Southport Broadwater. It has long been recognised that the capacity of drainage systems in the Frank Street area is minimal, primarily due to the aging drainage infrastructure. Most of the drainage systems were constructed prior to 1987 (when design rainfall estimates were first issued as part of Australian Rainfall & Runoff) and prior to adoption of the current Drainage Standards applied by Gold Coast City Council.

A Numerical Study of the Validity of Shallow Ice Approximations

Improving numerical ice sheet models is a very active field of research. In part, this is because ice sheet modelling has gained societal relevance in the context of predictions of future sea level rise. Ice sheet modelling is however also a challenging mathematical and computational subject. Since the exact equations governing ice dynamics, the full Stokes equations, are computationally expens...

Results From the Ice-Sheet Model Intercomparison Project-Heinrich Event INtercOmparison (ISMIP HEINO)

Results from the Heinrich Event INtercOmparison (HEINO) topic of the Ice-Sheet Model Intercomparison Project (ISMIP) are presented. ISMIP HEINO was designed to explore internal largescale ice-sheet instabilities in different contemporary ice-sheet models. These instabilities are of interest because they are a possible cause of Heinrich events. A simplified geometry experiment reproduces the mai...

Dynamically coupling the non-linear Stokes equations with the shallow ice approximation in glaciology: Description and first applications of the ISCAL method

We propose and implement a new method, called the Ice Sheet Coupled Approximation Levels (ISCAL) method, for simulation of ice sheet flow in large domains during long time-intervals. The method couples the full Stokes (FS) equations with the Shallow Ice Approximation (SIA). The part of the domain where SIA is applied is determined automatically and dynamically based on estimates of the modeling...

Seminar of Numerical Analysis

For more than one decade, Antarctic ice sheets have been retreating dramatically, and are expected to shrink even more quickly in the future. Recent studies have identifed the migration of the grounding lines separating the grounded part of ice sheets and the floating part of ice shelves as being a key process controlling marine ice sheet stability [4]. It is also wellknown that the grounding l...

Detection of Ice Sheet Elevation and Grounding Line Using ALOS / PALSAR Data

This paper describes the research plan to use ALOS / PALSAR data for Antarctic ice sheet analysis. The final goal of our study is to extract the precise ice sheet elevation and estimate accurate position of grounding line using ALOS / PALSAR data. The authors have been studying the grounding line and ice sheet topography from InSAR data, which mainly used ERS-1/2 tandem data. We plan to adopt t...
